History
The Texas Legislature authorized founding of the University of Texas and a UT Medical Department. Galveston, a leading commercial center at the time, was chosen as the Medical Department location by public referendum.
The first session met on October 5, 1891, with 23 students and 13 faculty. The campus consisted of just two buildings: The John Sealy Hospital, a clinical teaching facility, opened in 1890.
Today, UTMB occupies 85 acres and 54 major buildings on its main campus, and has numerous community-based sites in Texas. The most recent addition is the construction of the Bio-Safety Level 4 Lab, completed in October 2003.

UTMB Galveston
PeopleSoft® Project
The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston is a major academic health center dedicated to health science education, patient care, research and community service. For more than a century, dedicated teams of UTMB employees and volunteers have committed themselves to service, diversity, education, community and innovation - all with the common goal of safeguarding the health of Texas.
UTMB sought to improve overall business effectiveness by aligning systems and processes with their business objectives by implementing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). UTMB chose PeopleSoft® as their business applications vendor.
After an unsuccessful vendor-led PeopleSoft® Finance 8.4 implementation, the UTMB Information Systems staff assumed management of the implementation and re-initiated the project.
RSA Responds
UTMB engaged RSA, who already had a successful 5-year-old relationship with UTMB, to provide experienced PeopleSoft® consultants. RSA's team of professionals provided technology guidance and transfer, configuration support, custom development, and functional knowledge to the project effort. UTMB successfully deployed the application in July 2003.
UTMB continues its implementation and upgrading of additional business modules, as part of its overall PeopleSoft® project, with the assistance of RSA consultants. RSA's workflow and HRMS expertise is invaluable to UTMB's Fit/Gap review and HRMS projects.
Today, as UTMB undertakes its Payroll 8.8 implementation, RSA's planning experience and guidance will help to ensure this project's success; optimally utilizing features and functions that best suit UTMB' s business processes.
RSA Results
Holly Howard, IS Manager at UTMB-Galveston said, "RSA . . . understands our need and works well in a timely fashion to meet our need with quality individuals."
With two master services agreements, one for general services; the other for high-level PeopleSoft® expertise, UTMB's PeopleSoft® initiatives are predominantly staffed with RSA consultants. These consultants have been recognized for their superior contributions in helping UTMB to realize its investment in PeopleSoft®; providing business value and cost reductions for years to come.
