GalvestonIndependent School District (GISD)
Technology Blueprint

After the approval of Proposition 2, a $5.5 million bond issue to move the district into the digital age in instruction, GISD commissioned RSA to conduct a district-wide Technology Analysis.

Although the Proposition 2 bond issue was the initial driver for examining technology at GISD, it was determined that the District could benefit from a more comprehensive look at information technology use, processes and plans.

The Superintendent's stated goals are to radically increase the use of technology in the District's educational and administrative processes and to move to making data-driven decisions.

RSA Responds

RSA provided a Technology Blueprint, which identified technologies, processes, and developing areas that should be used and investigated as potential solutions to a variety of problems confronting GISD.

The goal was to make recommendations and draw conclusions that were realistic for GISD. RSA project managers and consultants engaged with GISD Executive, Administrative and Instructional personnel to understand current and planned facilities, software and capabilities. In addition, RSA staff used their knowledge of currently available products and services to define alternative approaches.

What RSA provided was a valuable overview of the current conditions with detailed recommendations and conclusions.

In addition, GISD asked RSA to review the communication infrastructure design for a new elementary school and to participate in a conference with architects and contractors. During that review, RSA made several recommendations that saved the district over $100,000.00 in unnecessary expenses. RSA then assisted GISD in pursuing the recommendations and in delivering the projects identified by the more complex areas studied.

RSA Results

The vendor-unbiased assessment, guidance and technology resources provided yet another level of savings and value to GISD for years to come. RSA now serves, pro bono, on GISD's newly formed technology steering committee, chaired by the district superintendent.

"It is anticipated that as a result of the analysis and the information provided in RSA's blueprint," Superintendent Lynn Hale commented, "we are better able to create, manage, and report on their use and plans for technology as well as gain a greater level of confidence in the technology direction."
