RSA Corp Hosts Guitar Hero Tournament to Raise Money for Pediatric Cancer Research

RSA Corp seeks to raise $10,000 for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) by hosting a rock “n” roll-themed fundraising event. Dubbed Rock Fest 2008, the event is November 1, 2008 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Caroline Collective, near Houston’s Museum District. Festivities include a lemonade stand, Guitar Hero Tournament, live band, T-shirt sales, raffles, food, drinks and networking.

“Cancer has touched many of our lives, and it’s especially painful when children are affected by disease,” said George Black, president and CEO of RSA Corp. “We believe in Alex’s Lemonade Stand and stand by its vision to improve the availability of new treatments for hard-to-cure childhood cancers. This event is designed to be a celebration of life and community, and what makes celebration more fun than rock ‘n’ roll?”

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation is a non-profit organization that evolved from a young cancer patient’s front-yard lemonade stand to a nationwide fundraising movement for childhood cancer. The young cancer patient was Alexandra “Alex” Scott. For four years, despite her deteriorating health, Alex held an annual lemonade stand to raise money for pediatric cancer research.

Following her inspirational example, thousands of lemonade stands have been held across the country by children, schools, businesses and organizations, all to benefit ALSF. Since its inception, the Pennsylvania-based non-profit has raised $25 million for childhood cancer research through more than 5,000 annual lemonade stands and corporate sponsorships.

“Cancer is the leading cause of death for children under the age of 15 in the United States,” said Jay Scott, father of Alexandra “Alex” Scott and founder of ALSF. “And, childhood cancer research is vastly and consistently underfunded.”

With hospitals like Texas Children’s Hospital and The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston is a major contributor to cancer research.

“Houston proves itself again and again to be a city with heart, so we decided to do something to bring the community together for a fun, laid-back celebration of life,” said Stephen C. Sweeney, chief operating officer of RSA Corp. “It’s important for Houston business to lead the charge in supporting organizations like Alex’s Lemonade Stand.”

At the Caroline Collective, a local co-working space, attendees can gather outside and listen to live music or watch the Guitar Hero Tournament indoors. Tournament contestants will compete on easy, medium, hard or expert of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. Songs will be randomly chosen, and all levels will play the same song. Player with the highest points will advance to next bracket. Number of brackets depends on how many contestants sign up to play.

Grand prizes will be awarded to first-place winners in each category. All tournament contestants will receive a complimentary Rock Fest T-shirt. The lemonade stand opens at 2 p.m. and will serve complimentary Country Time® Lemonade and Sweet Leaf™ Tea. Other beverage sponsors include Tito’s Vodka and Saint Arnold Brewery. Activision, creators of Guitar Hero, donated eight Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock game sets – game CD and guitar controller – for raffle. Other raffle items include Houston Dynamo gear.

Tickets are $20 and T-shirts will be available for $10. All proceeds go to ALSF. Tickets are available at the door and online at http://www.firstgiving.com/rockfest2008.
