This Houston-based company is a manufacturer of trenching equipment. It originated aluminum hydraulic trench shoring and is recognized worldwide as an industry leader. For more than 35 years, this manufacturer has been on the forefront of advanced trench safety equipment. Utilizing advanced CAD systems and finite-element analysis, this company’s professional engineers design state-of-the-art trench safety systems as well as custom and site-specific applications.
The company began experiencing technology problems stemming from poor network architecture design. Also, efficiency opportunities were not receiving appropriate focus. Several computer vendors had serviced the company’s systems, which resulted in lack of an integrated and strategic approach to network computing. It had multiple servers in different NT domains, which made interconnectivity problematic. This required various workarounds at the desktop level, which were performed by in-house personnel at the expense of employee productivity.
This manufacturer turned to RSA Corp for immediate problem resolution and a strategy to improve network availability and services. We first set out to understand the company’s business processes and technology applications. To resolve ongoing problems, we executed a comprehensive infrastructure migration to consolidate all of the servers into a single domain. The domain was then upgraded to Windows Server 2003 to provide reliability, security and scalability. We also implemented secure wireless access for the large warehouse and manufacturing areas to allow for real-time communication between departments – from marketing and sales to fulfillment and accounting.
The infrastructure migration and domain upgrade provided a strengthened and reliable network architecture. Also, the company’s employees were now able focus on their job duties rather than technology, because we managed IT issues.
Later, the company had an urgent need for custom application design to support training for governmental agencies. We responded on short notice with experts, who quickly familiarized themselves with the company’s visual manufacturing system. Our experts then created routines to run the necessary reports in time for the training delivery. Because we were familiarized with this company’s business, we were able to respond quickly and effectively.
